How do the Essential Oils repel bugs?

Many insects, like mosquitoes, are attracted to the carbon dioxide we exhale and specific compounds in our sweat. Essential oils with strong aromas can mask these attractants, making it harder for bugs to locate us. Many insects find the chemical compounds in essential oils irritating, overwhelming, or disorienting. This can deter them from landing or lingering in the treated area. Think of it as a strong, unfamiliar smell that the insect wants to avoid. Some essential oils contain compounds that can directly irritate an insect's exoskeleton or sensory organs upon contact, causing them to avoid the source.

Which bugs does deBug help repel?

In our blend of oils, we try to cover all of the bases. Lemon & Eucalyptus oil is well-regarded for its ability to repel mosquitoes, ticks, and other biting insects. Cedarwood oil is known to repel moths, termites, and some types of ants. Lemongrass naturally contains citronella, a well-known natural insect repellent, particularly effective against mosquitoes. The strong scent of rosemary can repel various garden pests like carrot flies, slugs, cabbage worms, and even mosquitoes. Many people have seen success in repelling ticks and other pests as well!

Is it a really strong scent?

Not at all! There is enough scent for the bugs but not too much that you feel like you're inhaling Lemon & Eucalyptus the whole time. It's the strongest when you're spritzing it on & then disappates more as you move and rub it in.

Can I use it on my kids?

Yes! That's exactly why it was created. We didn't want to rub all of those chemicals on our kids. We definitely recommend spot testing on their skin first, so you know if you have any sensitivities, but most people can use it just fine! For babies with new, silky soft skin, use cautiously (again, just in case they have a sensitivity) & always check with your pediatrician if you have any concerns!

Can I use it on my dog?

We don't recommend it for pets only because of some of the essential oils, but we do have a spray specific for your dogs! Spritz the k9 Spray on them to keep pests at bay, and bonus- they'll smell fresher too.

Is it safe for fabrics?

Yes! It can be spritzed on clothes, shoes, tents, sleeping bags, sheets, hats, anything (well, maybe not suede, but that's it). Even if you're not camping & sleeping in the outdoors, deBug could help in your home!

One of our customers said they could not figure out why her daughter was waking up with big bites every morning. After washing the sheets daily, putting her in different pjs, taking baths every night, sealing her room better, we recommended spritzing her sheets in deBug every night. Voila, no more bug bites in the morning!!
