Menthol is what sets peppermint apart from every other mint, and it's worth knowing why. Where lavender's calming compounds work gently through the nervous system, menthol works more directly — it switches on the same TRPM8 receptors that cold air triggers, so your skin and airways feel genuinely cool without any real change in temperature. That's why peppermint wakes you up in the shower, eases sinus pressure in a steamer, makes tired feet feel cooler after a long day, and why a roll-on on the temples is a real headache helper, not just an old wives' tale.
